Finally finished the roll around cart/frame. I welded on 4 swivel casters, so that I can move it into and out of any spot in the shop with ease. I also chopped out a section of the floor. I still have to chop the rest of the floor out but I'm taking my time because I don't want to cut something that will weaken the body enough to go out of square. I will most likely have to tack weld some temporary diagonal bars inside the car, before I cut to much more of the floor out. After that I'll remove the inner fender wells and all of the original suspension mounting brackets.
I've decided that it would be best to mock the frame up using 2x4's and PVC piping so I don't waste the steel I'll be buying. I am positive I will make a lot of bad decisions to begin with, so that is the reason for cheap, easy to work with materials for the mock-up. I think that .75" to 1" PVC piping will work well for mocking the A-arms up and any other round stock section I'll need to build.
I can't go to far with the frame until I get a tranny and rear end, but I can get a good start as to how the front end will work, and how the engine will mount to the frame. The other dilemma is when to buy the front fenders and round-headlight nose. I don't want to get to ahead of myself with the aesthetics, but I think they are quite necessary to have around, if I'm going to chop up the inner fenders and radiator support.
Here are a few pics from the day:
